Kan-non Sitting Sandstone

Kan-non is a goddess of compassion, mercy, and kindness and is considered to be a mother-goddess and patron of sailors. The name Kan-non means “observing the sounds (or cries) of the world.” She has the power to assume whatever form is necessary to fulfill her vow to save all beings form suffering. She shields and cares for the sick and protects women and children.

Kan-non is usually depicted as a barefoot, gracious woman dressed in beautiful white flowing robes, often carrying a small vase of holy dew, pearl of wisdom, lotus flower for pure heart, prayer beads, or a willow branchy to sprinkle the divine nectar of life upon the devotees to bless them with physical and spiritual peace.
