VIRTUAL ONLINE CLASS (This season only due to Covid)

This concluding level uses more complex sentence structure and introduces new kanji and a review of kanji from previous levels. Topics and grammar points include, but are not limited to, using quotations, expressing potentiality, and making hypothetical statements.

Each level has 3 parts (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3) which should be taken sequentially before you can move on to the next level.

Part 1

Dates: Oct. 4, 11, 18, 25, Nov. 1, 8, 15, 22 (60 minute session)
Content: kanji, Unit 3
Description: This course continues from the completion of the Nihongo: Japanese Language Level III series of classes. It provides further exploration into the Japanese language and culture.

Part 2

Dates: Jan. 3, 17, 24, 31, Feb. 7, 14, 21, 28 (60 minute session)
Content: kanji, Unit 4
Description: This course continues from Part 1 Japanese Language Level IV class series (October – November above).

Part 3

Dates: Mar. 7, 14, 21, 28, April 11, 25, May 2, 9 (60 minute session)
Content: kanji, Unit 5
Description: This course continues from Part 2 Japanese Language Level IV class series (January – February above). Students in this course will be introduced to writing and reading kanji and finish the required textbook.

- This will be a VIRTUAL CLASS using Zoom Conferencing.
- You will need to have a dedicated connection to the internet and the use of either a computer or tablet.

Meet Your Instructor

Sumiko Uo is a Japan-born educator who currently teaches at Florida Atlantic University and taught previously at Florida International University. A student of language and traditional Japanese cultural arts, Ms. Uo has taught Japanese language, calligraphy, literature and cinema to both children and adults. Her classes will appeal to beginners, as well as those with basic knowledge of Japanese.

Nihongo: Introduction to Japanese Courses

Nihongo: Introduction to Japanese is a beginner and lower intermediate program teaching Japanese speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Students are introduced to Japanese culture and lifestyles through lessons and conversation. Levels I and II use Japanese for Busy People I and levels III and IV use Japanese for Busy People II.

Class sessions run 8-weeks and are purchased as a “session only”, not individual classes.
Each level has 3 parts (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3) which should be taken sequentially before you can move on to the next level.

Diligent self-study is necessary to get the most out of these classes.

Classes

- Sessions: Classes are held in sessions ranging from two to eight weeks in length, classes offer guests the opportunity to immerse themselves in the cultural arts of Japan.
- Registration: Advance registration is required for all classes & workshops.
- Registration Opens: All Educational programs are open for registration on August 1st each year for the new season. The season runs from October of the current year to the summer of the following year.
- Admission: Admission to the museum & gardens is included with programs over $35.
- Age Requirement: Please know that unless otherwise stated as “Youth” all classes and workshops are for adults and teenagers 15 years and older. We will allow some younger youth on a case-by-case basis. Please contact the Education Program Coordinator at (561) 233-1367 if you would like to enroll a younger youth in a program.
