A Celebrated Event Making Its Return!
We are excited to announce the return of this special evening that celebrates the spirit and tradition of Obon. Join us for an unforgettable night of reflection, community, and celebration under the stars.
What is Obon?
Obon is a heartwarming Japanese tradition where families welcome the spirits of their ancestors for a brief visit with the living. On the final night, these spirits are gently guided back to the afterlife, their journey illuminated by farewell lights. In many communities, these guiding lights take the form of simple paper lanterns floating peacefully on water. Families who have lost loved ones in the past year often send beautifully decorated boats to help transport their spirits on their journey.
On this special evening, your lanterns will float on the lake, carrying your personal messages to lost loved ones.
This fundraising event will support the Morikami’s 4-E’s:
Education, Exhibitions, Emotional Well-Being Program, and Expansion.
The evening will feature:
- Sake tastings
- Delicious dinner & dessert (served indoors)
- Taiko performance in the theater
- Personal lantern to decorate and launch
- The beautiful sight of lanterns floating on the lake
Join us for a memorable night that honors tradition, community, and the cherished memories of loved ones.
