Hina-Dolls are dolls that Japanese families display to celebrate Hina Matsuri (Dolls’ Festival), or Girls’ Festival on March 3rd. It contains seated male and female dolls (the obina (男雛, “male doll”) and mebina (女雛, “female doll”)), which represent a Heian period wedding, but are usually described as the Emperor and Empress of Japan. On this day, girls and their families celebrate her health and happiness in front of dolls.
