This intensive 2-day workshop continues where you left off in Workshop I, it covers Units 2 and 3 of the required textbook and continues with hiragana reading and writing.

Please Note:

  • This workshop is the same as the Nihongo class – Part 1, just taught in a faster paced yet shorter time frame.
  • Students who complete this workshop may go on to Nihongo Intensive Workshop III or the Nihongo Level I-Part 3 Class.

Location

  • This will be a VIRTUAL CLASS using Zoom Conferencing. 
  • You will need to have a dedicated connection to the internet and the use of either a computer or tablet.
  • The Zoom log-in information will be sent to you after registering, prior to the start of class.

Prerequisite

  • Nihongo Intensive I Workshop or the Nihongo Level I Part 1 Class.

Materials

  • Required Textbook: Japanese for Busy People I Kana Version (revised 3rd edition) and Japanese for Busy People Kana workbook (revised 3rd edition) ISBN: 978-1568364018.
    Both books should include the CD. Please bring with you on the first day of classes.

Meet Your Instructor

Sumiko Uo is a Japan-born educator who currently teaches at Florida Atlantic University and taught previously at Florida International University. A student of language and traditional Japanese cultural arts, Ms. Uo has taught Japanese language, calligraphy, literature and cinema to both children and adults. Her classes will appeal to beginners, as well as those with basic knowledge of Japanese.

Nihongo: Japanese Level I Intensive Workshops Program Overview

The Nihongo: Japanese Intensive Workshops are a fast-paced introductory series consisting of three 2-day sessionsThe full series can be taken as an alternative to the entire Nihongo: Introduction to Japanese Level I Class series. Students who complete all three workshops will be ready for Nihongo: Introduction to Japanese Level II Class.

This workshop is an introduction to the Japanese language. It covers the basics, an introduction to hiragana, and Unit 1 of the required text. There are no prerequisites for this workshop. Students who take workshop 1-A may continue to Nihongo Intensive II Workshop or the Nihongo Level I Part 2 class. Students who take workshop 1-B must continue to Nihongo Intensive Workshop II, as it overlaps with the Nihongo Level I Part 2 class.

  • Class sessions run 8-weeks and are purchased as a “session only”, not individual classes.
  • Each level has 3 parts (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3) which should be taken sequentially before you can move on to the next level.
