Short Films
- The Crane’s Magic Gift, (21 mins., 1967) – uses animation to tell a Japanese fairy tale about an elderly couple who rescued a crane trapped on a snow-covered mountain and who were rewarded by a gift of a beautiful cloth woven from the bird’s own feathers.
- The Moonbeam Princess, (19 mins., 1965), is an animated film version of a Japanese fairy tale about a little princess who is sent to Earth on a moonbeam and who leaves a gift of magical flowers when she is recalled to her home on the moon.
- The Rolling Rice Ball, (11 mins., 1965) is an animated version of a classic Japanese fairy tale about a Japanese woodcutter who shares his rice balls with the mice and is rewarded and a grasping hunter who learns the folly of greed when receives no treasure from the mice.

Meet the Speaker
Born and raised in South Florida, Katharine Labuda is a preservationist & educator who has worked in the archives and libraries world for over 15 years. In her current role as a Special Collections Librarian with the Miami-Dade Public Library System, she manages the 16mm Film Collection, and archival materials in the Helen Muir Florida Collection. She also develops and facilitates programs designed to engage the public with historical materials and provide access to the unique collections held at the library. Through her AV CLUB series, she brings curated screenings of 16mm films from the library’s collection out to different libraries, museums, and clubs, and she connects with local filmmakers, curators, and journalists to act as guest hosts. In June of 2024, the Miami New Times named AV CLUB Best Film series of the year.
