Tanabata is a festival about the legend of Orihime (the Weaver Star) and Hikoboshi (the Cowherd Star), lovers separated by the Milky Way who meet once a year on July 7th. In Japan, people celebrate Tanabata by writing wishes on colorful paper strips called tanzaku, which they hang on bamboo branches amongst other paper ornaments.
