Families Reading Together Kickoff Event
This year’s book for the Families Reading Together Kick-off Event.

Date: Saturday, November 3, 2018
Cost: FREE (with paid museum admission)
Time: 10am – 1pm
Location: Throughout the Museum and Gardens

In partnership with the Palm Beach County Library System, the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens will be hosting the 15th annual “Families Reading Together” kick-off event! Join us for a day to promote children’s literacy. Reading with your family is an important bonding experience. Children in preschool through first grade and their families are encouraged to read this year’s book, Lola Plants a Garden by Anna McQuinn, available at any Palm Beach County Library System location. Children presenting a valid library card from any Palm Beach County library will receive free admission along with one accompanying adult. Enjoy a day filled with crafts and fun for all ages.

 ALL DAY FREE ACTIVITIES:

  • Great Book Giveaway – Library (10am-1pm) 

Get your free book! Choose from a wide selection of fun books offered by the Palm Beach County Library System, while supplies last!

  • Garden Safari Fun: Name that Plant – Gardens (10am-1pm)

Venture through our gardens on a word hunt for the Japanese names of the plants you’ll encounter.

  • Creature Corner Bookmarks – Classroom A (10am-1pm)

Fold a simple creature and make it your own by adding fun facial features, like googly eyes, jagged teeth, a teasing tongue, and more. When it is finished, pop it on the corner of a page in your book from the Great Book Giveaway!

  • Mori Stories – Classroom A (10am-1pm)

Create your own miniature coloring book of Japanese folktales.

OTHER ACTIVTIES:

  • Get your own Sound Safari fan for cool fun in the gardens.

Walk through the gardens and discover the world of Japanese sound effects. Fans are a $1 donation (All proceeds go towards Morikami education programs).

  • Palm Beach County Library’s Bookmobile.
