Personal Photography and Videography

Visitors to Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens are welcome to take photographs and/or videos in our gardens during normal operating hours: Tuesday through Sunday from 10am to 5pm. General admission rates apply for each individual, including photographers. Please click below for photo and video shoot guidelines.

Guidelines

Personal Photography and Videography Guidelines

  1. Only a small hand-held camera and collapsible tripod are allowed during operating hours. Additional photography equipment, garment bags, clothing racks, suitcases, or any baggage used to store articles of clothing will not be permitted beyond the admissions area. The changing of garments is not permitted during normal operating hours in any part of Morikami Museum and Gardens, including restroom facilities. Patrons wishing to take photos in the gardens must be dressed in the attire in which they intend to be photographed. Morikami security personnel are permitted to inspect the contents of all bags.
  2. No areas or pathways within the gardens may be obstructed or closed to other visitors.
  3. Photography and videography are not permitted in the galleries.
  4. The use of props and toy or authentic weapons of any sort (swords, knives, etc.) are not permitted at Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens.
  5. Photography and videography including, but not limited to the following is considered by Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens to be commercial: advertisements, calendars, catalogs, guidebooks, magazines, television commercials and programs, movies, and instructional or documentary videos. These types of activities are not permitted during normal operating hours and alternative arrangements must be made through the Facility Rental Department.
  6. Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens reserves the right to determine the appropriateness of any photo or video activity on its property, and may choose to discontinue the activity of any individual or group if rules and regulations are not being observed.

Private Photography Sessions

Private photography sessions during non-operating hours may be scheduled for an exclusive experience in our gardens. These sessions are recommended for, but are not limited to the following types of events:

  • Engagement or couples photos
  • Group or family portraits
  • Quinceañera photos
  • Marriage proposals
  • Wedding party photos
  • Personal portfolio photos
  • School projects

Rates: $195.00 plus 6.0 % tax for up to 6 guests for up to a two hour time period. Additional guests are $15.00 plus tax for each individual. The photographer must be included in the guest count. Alternative rates may be arranged for longer or shorter sessions. Arrangements must be made through the Facility Rental Department.

Private Photography Guidelines

  1. Museum exhibits and galleries may not be photographed at any time.
  2. Changing of garments is allowed, but must take place in designated changing areas and not in the gardens.
  3. Dressing rooms may be available for use, but must be requested at the time of booking and are subject to availability.
  4. The use of props may be allowed, but are subject to approval by Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens personnel.
  5. Reservations for private photography sessions are required. Reservations are scheduled through the Facility Rental Department and must be made at least 3-7 days in advance.
  6. Private photography sessions may be available during the following times:
  • 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. – Tuesday through Sunday
  • 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. – Tuesday through Sunday (depending on the time of the year)
  • 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. – Monday

Commercial Photography and Filming

The following includes, but is not limited to categories that are considered to be commercial projects and must meet specific requirements:

  • Photos that appear in advertisements, calendars, catalogs, guidebooks, magazines or other published print, and news articles.
  • Filming for educational, instructional, or documentary videos, television advertisements and commercials, television programs, infomercials, and movies.

Commercial Photography and Filming Guidelines

Groups or individuals interested in scheduling a commercial photography or film shoot at Morikami should contact the Facility Rental Department to discuss availability. Once availability is established, a Certificate of Liability demonstrating the proper insurance requirements must be submitted to the Palm Beach County Film and Television Commission by the group or individual requesting the activity. After the appropriate documents are filed, Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens will have the final decision to approve or decline the activity. The Palm Beach County Film and Television Commission may be reached at 561-233-1000. Donation Requests- The Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens may request a donation of $500.00 or greater for any commercial photography or film shoot. Donations are arranged through the Facility Rental Department and should be remitted prior to commencement of any activity at Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens. All donations are tax deductible and will be reported as such. Location credit must be given for all photos or filming conducted at Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens.

All individuals and groups are responsible for supplying all equipment necessary to conduct the shoot, including wheeled carts, hand trucks, and/or manpower to transport items along the garden pathway. Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens supplies only the location and does not provide golf carts, hand trucks, ladders, or other equipment to facilitate the transportation or set-up of photography or filming equipment. Morikami staff will not be available to assist in the set-up of any items or equipment, but are on-site for the event to serve as a point of contact on behalf of Morikami.
  6. Reservations for commercial photography and/or filming are required and must be scheduled through the Facility Rental Department at least 3-7 days in advance.
  7. Commercial photography and/or filming may be available during the following times:
    • 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. – Tuesday through Sunday
    • 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. – Tuesday through Sunday (depending on the time of the year)
    • 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. – Monday
